05 November 2013 Teaching… Here is your link for tomorrow’s teaching episode: blogtalkradio/evangelist-larry-walters/2013/11/05/real-discipleship [You may copy/paste these notes or re-write them into your journals.] Grace, Mercy, and Peace are multiplied unto us from our Father, by His Son our Messiah, through the Spirit this day as we press forward…walking even as He (our Messiah Yahshua) walked! Our main text for today, and the next several days, Abba willing will be Luke 4:14-30. Today we will begin with Luke 4:14-20 which reads: Luke 4:14-20 (14) And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about. Notes: 1. Luke points out that Yahshua did not return into Galilee under His own leading or power. Rather, He returns in the power of (same word as in Acts 1:8) the Spirit. When we try to do things in our own power instead of the Spirit’s power we are bound for defeat and misery. When we go in the Spirit’s power there is an anointing upon us where nearly everything move supernaturally! 2. Matthew 4:23-25 gives us insight concerning the fame of Messiah as He ministered. Mat 4:23-25 (23) And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people. (24) And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them. (25) And there followed him great multitudes of people from Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Judaea, and from beyond Jordan. (15) And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all. Notes: 1. As difficult as it might seem for many to confess, Messiah Yahshua was a Jew (of the tribe of Judah); raised as a Hebrew (One who crossed over), raised according to the Torah, living blamelessly for our sake. 2. This is why He kept Sabbath, taught on the Sabbath and followed the Feasts of Yahovah. Did you know that Sabbath is called a Feast of Yahovah? See Leviticus 23:1-3. It is the 1st mentioned of the Feasts beginning in Genesis 2:2-3. It is the one feast we are to “remember” and “keep” as listed in the 10 Commandments. It was observed by the early church leaders. It is for today. 3. The observance of “Sun”-day worship came with the Catholic Church and Constantine in Laodicea starting in 321 AD. (Visit remnantofgod.org/321ad.htm for more on this note.) (16) And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up for to read. Notes: 1. Nazareth, the place where He was raised by Joseph and Miryam. Where also dwelt His brothers and sisters. (See Mark 6:3) 2. Again the phrase, “as His custom was”, is used concerning the observance of the Sabbath. This phrase is also used concerning Apostle Paul in Acts 17:2 “as his manner was” concerning teaching on the Sabbath 3. Next we see that He went into the synagogue or place of teaching and corporate worship among the Jewish people today. Have you ever entered into a synagogue today? Why not? When the Gospel is “to the Jew 1st” how will they hear if Yahovah’s people are too afraid to “go and tell them”? 4. Notice He stood to read and then as He finished His reading He sat down in verse 20. The custom we have added to the church of the lecturing “pastor” is not found in the Scripture. Standing to read and then sitting to teach is a common practice during Biblical times. This allows for each member to become an active participant rather than inactive observer. This also allows the body to receive ministry from others who operate in the Gifts of the Spirit. (17) And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, (18) The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, (19) To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. Notes: 1. Quoting from Isaiah 61:2-3a Messiah stops in what we would call “mid-stream” of this passage. 2. It can be noted that this could have been Shavu’ot or Pentecost and it would be a fitting announcement on this day of the outpouring of the Ruach HaKodesh. The inference comes from the use of Sabbaton in the Greek which is almost always used to describe the counting of the Omer during the Feast of Weeks, which culminates with Pentecost. 3. It is understood that He was given the Spirit according to Isaiah 11:1-5. (20) And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him. Tomorrow we will “listen in” as Rabbi Yahshua continues this discourse and fulfill the prophecy that “a prophet is not without honour, except…” Abba willing, that is! We pray that our broadcasts and teachings are a blessing unto you and encouraging you in your daily walk with our Messiah Yahshua.
