[07/12 16:28] Navnita Basera: Msg from an Offr who knew Lt Col Sankalp Kumar... When I came to know the name... It brought back memories of Apr 2003... 92 Base Hospital Srinagar... Myself and Sankalp lying next to each other in ICU... Both were recently operated. He got gun shot wounds... I was badly injured in grenade and IED blast... His injuries were peculiar - Got a burst of AK on his stomach... Some of which hit the magazine he was carrying and live rounds were extracted from his belly. His parents came over and would always talk to both of us. Even in ICU he was full of fun and his never ending jokes caused a lot of pain as both of us had over 40 stitches on the stomach...... He was a soldier in the truest sense! Its officers like him, we need... ...Lt Col Sankalp Kumar, martyred in the line of duty today. He was already a Battle Causalty. Not recommended to serve in Field Area. But he volunteered to serve in Kashmir for the love of his paltan - 24 PUNJAB, since they moved there. THATS THE CHARACTER OF INDIAN ARMY. God bless his soul! When the aussie cricketer died the PM personally expressed his condolences. Will he do the same for this officer n the men who died? But lets see whether their supreme sacrifice is honoured by this ungrateful nation or not. While on 4 dec all the TV channels were playing footage of soldiers fighting those who decided to once again undermine the great democracy of India, they soon moved over to other frivolous news items , some of them being... 1. Dhonis new hairstyle. 2. Varun dhawan promoting his film badlapur in mumbai. 3. Aamir khan promoting his film in varanasi. 4. behenji holding political meeting in jammu. 5. Some idiots protesting animal rights issues in bangalore. 6. Puppet show in jaipur. 7. Kite show in kanpur. 8. Dilip kumar not well. The media of this country knows how to increase its TRP and nothing else. Lt col is the perfect example of a patriot, while most of our youngsters vie for lucrative careers in other fields, lt col sankalp chose Army over all other careers and chose infantry. He was a brave soldier and having got injured before in an terror attack he decided to get his posting back to J&K because he always wanted to fight the terrorists and not sit comfortably in some cozy offices. He is survived by his wife and two daughters whom he spoke to, three days back and said that I will meet you in six days.... He called his mother and said I will become a colonel and come home to you. On 4 dec lt col sankalp with 3 other ranks was travelling in a gypsy and when he heard the news of this attack he immediately moved towards the incident site without caring for his life...3 out of 4 occupants of that gypsy are now dead including lt col sankalp and one is seriously injured. One of the terrorists hid in the lawns of a md accn of a major and the lady and two small kids lived through hell for couple of hrs before he was killed just try to imagine your wife in that situation. How many more soldiers like lt col sankalp need to die before this ungrateful nation learns to respect its soldiers. Arnab goswami and people like him need to do more to project such incidents moving beyond petty TRP ratings. I ask why there is no nation wide protest against this attack, why our actors dont and cant take up these issues once in a while , why our politicians cant take a united stand and keep their petty politics aside and why the life of a soldier is so cheap in this country. At this point of time the armed forces fraternity finds itself stranded and cheated. The least we can do is to extend our support to families of the deceased...show your support by circulating this msg...all faujis should stand together because we never know whos next.....
