Pakistani forces resorted to heavy firing and shelling along the entire international border and several places along the LoC in Jammu region last night. Sixteen persons, including four army and a BSF jawan, have been injured. India has also decided to put on hold the proposal for a flag meeting at the commander-level along the border in Jammu and Kashmir. We have more from our correspondent: During the ongoing hostilities between the two countries it is the first time in Jammu and Kashmir that Pakistan forces have targeted entire international border including border villages of hamlets with heavy arm. Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and three others accused in the 66 crore rupee disproportionate assets case are likely to move the Supreme Court today challenging the Karnataka High Courts order refusing bail to them. The High Court rejected the bail pleas of the four convicts yesterday observing that corruption amounts to violation of human rights. The Judge quoted various cases of Supreme Court under Prevention of Corruption Act and pronounced that there is no ground for bail to the convicts in this case. The rejection of the bail plea threw up a wave of emotions for the ruling AIADMK throughout the State. Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam appealed to the public to co-operate in maintaining law and order in the state. The Central Bureau of Investigation has ruled out any foul play in the death of former Union Minister Gopinath Munde. Official sources confirmed this to AIR yesterday. The agency was entrusted with the responsibility of probing the reasons behind the death of Munde after demands from a number of senior BJP leaders who suspected foul play in the accident. Munde died on the 3rd of June this year in a car accident on his way to the Indira Gandhi International airport. The Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, DIPP has cleared 33 defence proposals which were pending for the last several years. Of the 33 proposals, 19 are related to the foreign direct investment to boost manufacturing in the Defence sector. The decision was taken after the simplification of the FDI policy which has raised the FDI cap in defence from 26 to 49 percent. In Maharashtra, campaigning for the October 15 assembly elections has reached its peak. All major political parties including Congress, BJP, Shiv Sena, MNS, NCP and BSP have intensified their electioneering. Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi will launch his election campaign from today addressing a rally in the historic town of Mahad in Raigad district. The MeT officials said that the system is expected to make a landfall in Long Island in the forenoon. Our correspondent reports that under the influence of the cyclone, almost all parts of Andaman and Nicobar are receiving incessant rain since yesterday. All the Islands in Andaman and Nicobar are receiving incessant rain and wind is gusting with speed of up to 80 kilometers. Holiday has been announced for schools and inter-island shipping has been suspended due to the fury of the spinning cyclone. The system is expected to gain more strength after its first landfall in the Long Islands in Northern Andaman and then would be moving as a severe cyclone north westwards, as informed by the weather officials. Tension prevails in Bahadurpur village of Uttar Pradesh, following the killing of three youths, a few days ago. A local village headman said, representatives of the communities are scheduled to meet the district magistrate today.
