09 Sep 2013 - Stationary high pressure ridges will dominate the BC coast today. A 1021 mb ridge NW of Haida Gwaii extending through Queen Charlotte Sound will drift eastward while the 1022 Pacific high shifts only slightly. This will bring clear conditions to most areas of the BC coast today. A great deal of colder air is subsiding through the stationary highs. Most areas of the coast will experience morning fog. West coast Vancouver Island, northern Vancouver Island and the north coast will encounter drizzle until the fog dissipates. Fog banks on the north coast, Queen Charlotte Sound, Queen Charlotte Strait should dissipate by noon and reform overnight. Fog banks on the west coast Vancouver Island will dissipate slowly and may linger through the afternoon. Fog will reform overnight. Fog banks in Juan de Fuca Strait will dissipate by noon. Fog patches in Haro Strait, the Gulf Islands (including the San Juans), southern Georgia Strait will dissipate this morning. A weak trough of low pressure extending into lower Johnstone Strait will move away today. Winds will rise this afternoon to strong NW and diminish overnight. A 990 mb low moving through the Gulf of Alaska is expected to move north into Alaska. The frontal system of this extensive storm will near Haida Gwaii tonight. Temperatures in most areas of the coast will be at or above seasonal normals.
