1- This is warning to those go to kaola and other graves to worship or do ibadan.. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said near the end of his life: “May Allah curse the Jews and the Christians, for they have taken the graves of their Prophets as places of worship.” (Al-Bukhari, Book of Funerals, no. 1330; Sahih Muslim, Al-Masajid, no. 529) He said to Ali: “Do not leave a picture except that you erase it, nor an elevated grave except that you level it.” (Sahih Muslim, no. 969) He (pbuh) also said: “Verily, those who were before you all, used to take the graves of their Prophets and righteous people as Masjids. So, do not take the graves as Masjids, for verily I prohibit you all from that.” (Sahih Muslim, no. 532) Umm Salamah and Umm Habibh mentioned to the Prophet a church that they saw in Ethiopia and the pictures in it. So, he said: “These are people that whenever a righteous man dies among them, they build a Masjid over his grave and make these pictures in it. These people are the worst of creation with Allah.” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim) It is incumbent on Muslims to realize the dangerous pit many have fallen into out of exaggeration. It is necessary upon us to educate and carry the message of Tawheed to others. Tombs of saints – known in the Indian subcontinent as dargahs – are worship places, where dead saints are venerated and worshiped. This is not permissible as all types of worship and veneration should be for Allah alone. Allah says: “...So whoever hopes for the Meeting with his Lord, let him work righteousness and associate none as a partner in the worship of his Lord.” (Qur’an, 18:110) The whole Qur’an is full of verses that make worship exclusively for Allah alone. Shirk – setting up partners with Allah – came into human beings by exalting pious individuals to the level of God. This is how mankind deviated from the pure worship of Allah. For instance, Jesus (peace be upon him) is worshiped, though he was a messenger like other messengers before him, albeit with different miracles and qualities. Allah gave special qualities to every prophet and messenger. And (remember) when Allah will say (on the Day of Resurrection): “O Jesus, son of Mary! Did you say unto men: ‘Worship me and my mother as two gods besides Allah?’ “ He will say: “Glory be to You! It was not for me to say what I had no right (to say). Had I said such a thing, You would surely have known it. You know what is in my inner self though I do not know what is in Yours, truly, You, only You, are the All Knower of all that is hidden and unseen. Never did I say to them aught except what You (Allah) did command me to say: ‘Worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord.’ … (Qur’an, 5:116-117) Some Muslims too have fallen into a similar trap out of extreme veneration of saints. They now go to dargahs hoping the saints will answer their pleas or will at least intercede to Allah on their behalf. So they direct inner and outer acts of worship to these dead people. Inner acts of worship are, for example, submission, extreme humility, hope, trust, and love in a manner that should be directed toward Allah alone. They have faith that dead people have miraculous power to solve their problems. One must think that when people cannot unconditionallyhelp us when they are alive, then how could they help us after death when they are in a life of Barzakh that has nothing to do with the life of this world? Outer acts of worship done at these places include Sajdah, Tawaf, and the many other innovated forms of rituals they do. However, only Allah deserves all types of worship, and it should be done in the manner He taught us through the Messenger. Allah says in the Qur’an: “And the mosques are for Allah (Alone), so do not do du’a to anyone along with Allah.” (Qur’an, 72:18) “And when My servants ask you (O Muhammad, peace be upon him) concerning Me, (then answer them), I am indeed near. I respond to the invocations of the supplicant when he calls on Me.” (Qur’an, 2:186) Making du’a to anyone else is not only the worst possible deed (Shirk), but it is also futile – because it is not based on revelation or reason. When we know that Allah is our Creator, He is the Provider, He is the Lord, He is the Most Merciful, He has power over everything, He Hears us, and Answers us, then shouldn’t He alone be worshiped? Just why should anyone else be worshiped? They can’t do us anything. They too are totally dependent on Allah. We worship Allah because He alone truly deserves to be worshiped. There is no being deserving or worthy of our worship except Allah. This is the meaning of “La ilaha illAllah.” People who leave their Lord and ask others – whether that other is a prophet or an angel or a saint or a stone or an idol – are Miskeen because instead of asking the One who is Capable of giving them what they want, they are asking those who are helpless Allah says in the Quran: Most of them believe not in Allah except that they attribute partners unto Him The Holy Quran, Chapter 12, Verse 106 Many believe that worshipping the Dead Saints located in Dargahs is part of Islam as this has been done by Millions of Muslims. “O mankind! A similitude has been coined, so listen to it (carefully): Verily, those on whom you call besides Allah, cannot create (even) a fly, even though they combine together for the purpose. And if the fly snatches away a thing from them, they will have no power to release it from the fly. So weak are (both) the seeker and the sought.” (Qur’an, 22:73) “O mankind! it is You who stand In need of Allah, but Allah is rich (Free of All wants and needs), Worthy of All praise.” (Qur’an, 35:15) Going to the graves of saints and directing acts of worship to them is Shirk because humans are given a divine status that rightly belongs to Allah alone. Allah says: Say (O Muhammad, peace be upon him): “Do you order me to worship other than Allah? O you fools!” And indeed it has been revealed to you (O Muhammad, peace be upon him), as it was to those (Messengers) before you: “If you join others in worship with Allah, (then) surely, (all) your deeds will be in vain, and you will certainly be among the losers.” Nay! But worship Allah (Alone and none else), and be among the grateful. They made not a just estimate of Allah such as is due to Him. And on the Day of Resurrection the whole of the earth will be grasped by His Hand and the heavens will be rolled up in His Right Hand. Glorified is He and Exalted is He above all that they associate as partners with Him! (Qur’an, 39:64-67) The Prophets came to guide people when they fell into Shirk. They were an example of perfect worship to Allah. Prophet Muhammad’s life (peace be upon) is such an example. The Companions, the best generation, and those who came after them were strongly upon this belief. They never went to the grave of the Prophet (peace be upon him) for help or to make du’a because this contradicts the fundamental message and belief that the Prophet came with. Our Salah is a direct connection with our Lord. What we say in it, if we understood it, is proof of that faith. 2- Recommendation to fast Taasoo’a’ with ‘Ashoora’ I want to fast ‘Ashoora’ this year, but some people told me that the Sunnah is to fast the day before as well (Taasoo’a’). Is there any report that this was the teaching of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)?. Praise be to Allah ‘Abd-Allaah ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: When the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) fasted on the day of ‘Ashoora and told the people to fast, they said, “O Messenger of Allaah, this is a day that is venerated by the Jews and Christians.” The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, “Next year, if Allaah wills, we will fast on the ninth day.” But by the time the following year came, the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) had passed away. Narrated by Muslim, 1916. Al-Shaafa’i and his companions, Ahmad, Ishaaq and others said: It is mustahabb [recommended] to fast both the ninth and the tenth, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) fasted the tenth and intended to fast the ninth. Based on this, there are different ways of fasting ‘Ashoora’, the least of which is to fast the tenth only, but it is better to fast the ninth as well. The more one fasts in Muharram, the better. If one were to ask, what is the wisdom behind fasting the ninth as well as the tenth? The answer is: Al-Nawawi (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: The scholars among our companions and others said that there are several reasons for recommending fasting on the ninth day (Tasoo’a’): 1 – The intention behind it is to be different from the Jews who limit their fasting to the tenth day. This was narrated from Ibn ‘Abbaas. 2 – The intention was to join the fast of ‘Ashoora’ to another day, just as it is not allowed to fast on a Friday on its own [but it is allowed if one fasts the day before or the day after as well]. 3 – The idea is to be on the safe side and make sure one is fasting on the tenth, in case the moon sighting was not accurate and what people think is the ninth is actually the tenth. The strongest of these reasons is in order to be different from the People of the Book. Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) forbade resembling the People of the Book in many ahaadeeth. For example, he said concerning ‘Ashoora’: “If I live until next year I will certainly fast the ninth.” Al- Fataawa al-Kubra, part 6. Ibn Hajar (may Allaah have mercy on him) said, commenting on the hadeeth “If I live until next year I will certainly fast the ninth”: His concern to fast the ninth may be understood as meaning that he would not limit himself to that, rather that he would add it to the tenth, either to be on the safe side, or to be different from the Jews and Christians, which is more likely to be correct; this is what may be understood from some of the reports narrated by Muslim.” From Fath al-Baari, 4/245. 3-Men and women talking in chat rooms I am a sister, who usually logs in to Paltalk and then goes to the Islamic rooms so that I may gain some knowledge related to our religion. Sometimes while I am in one of those Islamic rooms in Paltalk,a muslim brother(looking for a wife) in the room asks me to have a private written chat with him so that we get to know one another. Some of the questions he asks me are: where i live, my age, whether i am married(by the way I am not married), if I am planning to get marry, whether I live with my parents, and so on. My problem is, I dont know whether I am allowed(Islamicly) to give non- muharim brother those kinds of informations which related to me. Is it really SIN to talk to a brother in writing ??. Praise be to Allaah. There is nothing wrong with a Muslim woman making use of the internet and entering the Paltalk website for that purpose, so long as that does not lead to anything that is forbidden in Islam, such as talking privately with men. That is because talking to men may turn into chat which usually leads temptation. Hence it is essential to be strict and avoid that, seeking the pleasure of Allaah and fearing His punishment. How often have these conversations lead to bad results, and even caused people to fall in love, and have led some to do things that are even more serious than that. The Shaytaan makes each of them imagine attractive qualities in other, which leads them to develop an attachment that detrimental to their spiritual welfare and worldly affairs. Sharee’ah blocks all the ways that may lead to fitnah (temptation, trial), hence it forbids softness of speech and does not allow a man to be alone with a non-mahram woman. Undoubtedly these private chats are not regarded as khulwah in the sense that he people involved cannot see one another, but they are one of the greatest causes of fitnah as is well known. What has happened to you is the best testimonial to the truth of what we are saying, because it is difficult for a man to ask these personal questions of a believing woman, unless he uses these means that are being used in a bad way. Fear Allaah, and do not speak to non- mahram men. This is safer for your religious commitment and purer for your heart. You should note that marriage to a righteous man is a blessing from Allaah, and a blessing cannot be acquired by means of sin. Shaykh Ibn Jibreen (may Allaah preserve him) was asked: What is the ruling on correspondence between young men and women, if this correspondence is free from immorality and love? He replied: It is not permissible for any man to correspond with a woman who is not his mahram, because of the fitnah (temptation) involved in that. A person may think that there is no fitnah, but the Shaytaan will keep trying until he tempts him. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) commanded those who heard of the Dajjaal to keep away from him, and said that a man may approach him as a believer, but the Dajjaal will keep trying until he leads him astray. Correspondence between young men and women involves a great deal of fitnah and danger, so we must avoid it, even though the questioner says that this correspondence is free from immorality and love. From Fataawa al-Mar’ah, compiled by Muhammad al-Musnad, p. 96. Undoubtedly correspondence via chat rooms is more dangerous than correspondence by mail, but both are bad. And Allaah knows best. 4-Great reward of making adhaan The Messenger of Allaah-Allaah mention him in the highest of places, said: Whoever makes the adhaan for TWELVE years, then Paradise becomes obligatory for him, and he has sixty good deeds written for him every day because of his adhaan and thirty good deeds because of his calling of the iqaamah. [Saheehul Jaami no.6002] The one who makes the adhaan is forgiven in accordance to how far his voice reaches, and he has the reward of everyone who prays with him. [Saheehul Jaami no.6643] Allaah will forgive him even if he was one who fled during the advance of an army seeking forgiveness Allaah will forgive him even if he was one who fled during the advance of an army ‘Whoever says: أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إلَّا هُوَ الحَيُّ القَيّوُمُ وأَتُوبُ إِلَيهِ ‘Astaghfirullahal-Adheemal-lathee laa ‘ilaaha ‘illaa Huwal Hayyul Qayyoomu wa ‘atoobu ‘ilayhi. ‘I seek the forgiveness of Allah the Mighty, Whom there is none worthy of worship except Him, the Living, the Self-Subsistingand Supporter of all, and I turn to Him in repentance.’ Allaah will forgive him even if he was one who fled during the advance of an army.’ Abu Dawud 2/85, At-Tirmidhi 5/569 Al-Albanee Sahih t-Tirmidhi 3/182...
