1/22/15 - UPDATE: PEPPER WAS TRANSFERRED TO AGOURA SHELTER IN THE WEST SAN FERNANDO VALLEY (CA). He is on a 10-day medical hold where he can not be taken out of his kennel. He can be adopted/rescued, or as the person on the phone said, you can buy or purchase him, AS IS! Like a car. After the 10-day hold is up he can be taken by volunteers from the shelters nonprofit to the vet to get checked out and treated for any issues. The dogs have beds, blankets, heaters, and get afternoon snacks. Pepper is much better off in Agoura than he was at Carson. He still needs someone to save him. SHARE for a home for Pepper! THERE IS A TROUBLING TREND OCCURRING IN SO CAL SHELTERS. A LOT OF SENIOR DOGS ARE BEING SURRENDERED. PEPPER, AT OVER 15 YEARS OLD, IS ONE OF THE LATEST. Pepper was dumped at Carson Shelter (CA). His family left no information about him. Nothing. He has no chip, he isnt neutered, and now hes homeless and in danger. This isnt the way he envisioned the rest of his life...though it sounds like he didnt have a great home to begin with. According to the shelters medical department Pepper is ambulatory. They said he is geriatric and will be adopted on a medical waiver. Peppers coat is rough and full of flea dirt, he has moderate dental tartar, and he has a cauliflower growth below his left eye. The shelter said he is being monitored for appetite, behavior (depression, etc), and worsening condition. This is no way for an old man to live. Pepper should have someone who cares to make sure he is safe, warm, loved, and well fed. Please SHARE to make Peppers dreams come true! You never know who will see your share and want to save Pepper. Liking the post is nice, but SHARING SAVES LIVES. NOTE: Please dont clog the thread with comments about Peppers former owners. We all are upset about his situation but if we have to wade through hundreds of comments to find a foster offer it could hamper our efforts to save Pepper. I am thankful to everyone who offers her/his hard-earned money to help shelter animals. Your kindness, compassion, and generosity are appreciated and admired. I have found that pledges, while helpful to rescues, create friction, judgement, animosity, hostility, and distractions. Pledges attract disreputable rescuers and mislead private adopters who believe they are entitled to the funds. Pledgers will still have the opportunity to donate to the rescues that save the animals they choose to support, as once an animal has been rescued I will post paypal instructions. Its my hope this policy will stop the fighting on the threads which distracts from the mission of saving animals and intimidates people who want to help.
