1:53 a.m. An Anacortes police officer on the 4500 block of Oakes Avenue observed a yellow sports car stuck in the ditch on the south side of the road. The officer contacted a 22-year-old man on the scene who later identified himself as the driver of the vehicle and claimed that he must have been driving too fast when driving through the bend several blocks away. The officer asked the man if he had been drinking and he stated that he had one beer earlier in the evening. The subject performed poorly on roadside tests and was taken into custody and transported to the police department for DUI processing. A breath test administered at the department resulted in a reading of over two times the legal limit to safely operate a motor vehicle. The subject was charged with a DUI and released from the APD to a sober friend.
