$1.8 Million Fire Guts Apartments, Displaces 14 A second-alarm fire at 11 a.m. Monday that pushed thick black smoke into clear blue skies burned through a Pasadena apartment complex near Huntington Memorial Hospital occupied with people home for the Martin Luther King holiday. One person was treated for minor injuries and firefighters resuscitated a black Labrador dog overcome by smoke inhalation, Pasadena Fire Dept. spokesperson Lisa Derderian reported. The Department has CPR masks to revive animals, she said. “Pasadena Humane Society took dog to local vet and he was in good condition,” Derderian said. “The same couples’ cat was found alive two hours into the incident.” Another cat was found dead and one cat still missing. The fire took 22 minutes to knockdown and snarled traffic in the heavily-trafficked corridor. Five units of the complex in the 600 block of South Pasadena Ave. were damaged, and four are now uninhabitable, Derderian said. Four families are displaced, she added. Fire investigation determined the fire to be electrical in nature.
