1. Aircraft carrier Indigenous Nuclear Submarine Vikrant had launched In Kochi: • India successfully launched its first ever aircraft carrier Indigenous Nuclear Submarine Vikrant in Kochi. • Elizabeth Antony the wife of Defence Minister, A.K. Antony launched the ship as per the tradition. • A powerful and vigilant Navy is required to keep seaboard, island territories and sea shore of communication open in the interest of the nation. • Indian Navy always maintains high operational preparedness at all times, to protect our nation from terrorists. • Indian Navy have technology and well capable to match the best in the world. • When the aircraft carrier Indigenous Nuclear Submarine Vikrant has launched that moment was the historic moment for both country’s ship designing and building industry and Indian Navy. • Now our Nation India is also included in the list of the countries who are capable of designing and building such aircraft carrier submarine. • The major outfitting project of the vessel is planned to be completed by the year 2016. • The length and width of the INS Vikrant are 260 meters and 60 meters respectively. 2. India got success in test fire from surface to surface by Prithvi-II Missile: • India got success in test fire Prithvi-II Missile on 12 August 2013. The test fire was surface to surface from a military base in Odisha. • The Prithvi-II Missile is indigenously developed nuclear capable to fire weapon surface to surface. • The ballistic missile was fired from launch complex number three of the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur-on-sea in Balasore district off Odisha coast. • The Prithvi - II missile was launched by the staff of the Strategic Force Command (SFC) from ITR’s Launch Complex-III as part of routine user training. • The launch operation was monitored by the missile scientists of the Defence Research and Development. • The launched missile was tracked by the telemetry stations, electro-optical systems and radars along the East coast. • The whole system of the missile worked to perfection and completed its pre-designated target in the Bay of Bengal. • The Prithvi-II missile has been developed by the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and already admitted into the Indian Armed Forces. • Prithvi is the first missile which is developed under India’s prestigious Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme (IGMDP). 3. Delhi Govt. conferred lifetime achievement award 2013 on Abdul Rashid Khan and Anjolie Ela Menon • Delhi state government conferred Lifetime Achievement Award 2013 to two artists for their artistic work whose name are Abdul Rashid Khan and Anjolie Ela Menon. • The two experienced artists Abdul Rashid Khan and Anjolie Ela Menon were awarded for their contribution in the field visual arts and music. • The award carries a cheque of rupees 11 lakh and a citation. • Sahitya Kala Parishad organizes the award ceremony. • Abdul Rashid Khan is the oldest person who has received the Padma Bhushan 2013 as his age is 106 years. He is a Hindustani classical vocalist of Gwalior gharana. • Anjolie Ela Menon is India’s veteran artist whose work is known globally.She was conferred with the award of Padma Shri. 4. “Durga” name is given to the operation conducted by SAIL which is the Largest Blast Furnace of India: • The Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) operationalized the largest blast furnace of India at the SAIL Rourkela Steel Plant. • The whole operation was given a name ‘Durga’ which was held on 10th August 2013. • The hot metal capacity of the SAIL has been increased by 2.5 million tonnes by the blast furnace which make the hot metal capacity to 4.5 million tones per annum. • The volume of the furnace is 4060 cubic meters and approximate cost of 1600 crore rupees has been spent on its building. • The blast furnace is completely eco-friendly and ensures least emissions. 5. US researcher got success in developing a vaccine for 100% protection from Malaria for the first time, as they claimed on 8th Aug 2013: • For the first time, 100% successful Malaria Vaccine has been developed by US researchers as they claim it on 8th August 2013. • The new developed vaccine attacks the first stage of malaria which is called “pre-erythrocytic”, and may stop the disease before symptoms show. • The Sanaria Inc. company is the US biotech firm who has been developed and tested this vaccine. • The result of the vaccine was tested by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research and the Naval Medical Research Center. • The vaccine 100% successful in protecting subjects from the mosquito-borne tropical disease. • Thus all tests approve these vaccines as its results were very promising. 6. On 11 August 2013 Janata party merged with the Bhartiya Janta Party • In a meeting of Janata Party President Subramanian Swamy and Bharatiya Janata Party President Rajnath Singh, the Janata Party merged with the Bharatiya Janata Party on 11th August 2013. • The Janata Party was a blend of Indian Political parties opposed to the State of Emergency that was imposed between 1975 and 1977 by the Government of India under the prime Ministership of the late Indira Gandhi. • The Janata Party officially launched on 23 January 1977. • Morarji Desai was appointed the first party chairman of the Janata Party and Ramakhrishna Hegde was elected the party general secretary. 7. Usain Bolt won the 100 meter sprint title at IAAF World Championship 2013: • Usain Bolt is the Jamaican Sprinter who won the 100 meter sprint title in the 14th IAAF World Championship 2013, Moscow on 11th August 2013. • He is an Olympic champion who clocked a season’s best 9.77 seconds at the Luzhniki Stadium Moscow, with American Justin and Nesta Carter of Jamaica who claimed silver and bronze respectively. 8. Serena Williams is the winner of the Women’s Rogers Cup 2013: • Serena Williams defeated Sorana Cirstea in the final match of the Women’s Rogers Cup on 11th August 2013. • The Cup was organized at Rexall Centre, Toronto from 3 August 2013 to 11 August 2013. • She won the Cup for the third time.
