1. Akira Medina – Swirl Directed by: Petersen Vargas Brimming with romantic melancholy and restraint, Petersen Vargas’ visual take on Akira Medina’s “Swirl” is an exquisitely crafted short that tackles the unrequited passion between two young ladies in love with each other. Like memories told in reverse, it’s a bittersweet paean to two repressed souls who had intimate moments captured in stylized Oriental beauty, with awkward silences and skin-chaffing instances carrying a kind of warmth that’s more about soul than seduction. If the last 30 seconds of the video aren’t enough to make you cry an ocean, then I don’t know what do with you anymore. (Ian Urrutia) Did we really get the top spot from this years list? To think were alongside artists whose individual works I intensely admire (#5 – B. P. Valenzuela, #4 – Eraserheads, #3 – Spazzkid, #2 – Ang Bandang Shirley), and directors whose takes on each beautiful pieces are astounding as they are awe-inspiring, Im deeply humbled enough to have made something worthwhile. Thank you, Vandals On The Wall for this great honor. Yay Iyay Nerona & Зуй Карион!
