1 Aug 1971. The Concert For Bangladesh. Pandit Ravi Shankar came up with the idea and approached his long time friend George Harrison the former Beatles Star. George Harrison was so ecstatic with the idea that he had to shell out his own money to maintain the fund after legal problems froze all proceeds. The concert that took place at New Yorks Madison Sq Garden was to raise money to aid victims of famine and war in Bangladesh. This was way ahead of time and almost 15 years before Live Aid. The concert featured Bob Dylan, Ringo Starr, Leon Russell, Billy Preston, Eric Clapton, Ravi Shankar and members from Badfinger. The triple album release (the second in a row by Harrison), hit No.1 in the UK and No.2 in the US and received the Grammy Award for Album of the Year.
