1) Brief Description: Three years ago God blessed the Cornwall Wesleyan Church in Cornwall Ontario, Canada with a 20,000 sq. ft. former elementary school that we have converted into an amazing ministry center. One or our first thoughts when we bought the facility was “We need to tithe this building back to the community for the glory of God and to show the love of Christ”. We eventually settled with the idea of converting one of the former classrooms into an “Emergency Shelter for Fire victims.” Once complete, the unit will be a self-contained one bedroom apartment with its own entrance, complete kitchen, bathroom and laundry facilities. The purpose of the unit is to assist people who have experienced a sudden loss or an unplanned emergency such as a house fire for up to 30 days. 2) COST: We have already invested about $25,000 in the project and we are coming down to the final stretch, but as of Sept 16th we are still in need of about $9000 to finish the work and furnish the facility. 3) Clients: Occupants of the shelter would primarily be referrals from Red Cross Emergency Coordination department who are the ones that are contacted by the fire department after a house fire to tend to the needs of the people affected directly affected. The Red Cross then sends out an assessment team to determine coverage and need. At the present time the Red Cross in Ontario, can only house affected families and individuals in a hotel for up to 3 days. The emergency shelter would be used to provide extended coverage from 3-30 days at no cost to the occupant. It is our hope and desire that by providing this facility that we will not only minister to the effected family during a real time of need, but the entire extended family unit that is affected by a house fire. Other groups or organizations in our community that also have interest in using the facility if vacant are. 1) Victim Services of Cornwall has also requested use of the facility in cases such as those who have experienced a suicide in their house and they remaining family has to leave their home for several weeks for the investigation to take place. 2) Cornwall Hospital has indicated that they have need from time to time to house family members who are in town due to someone in the hospital and hotel expenses are creating a real financial burden on them and their family. 3) Veteran’s Group of Cornwall, Helping Vets who are suffering from Post-Traumatic stress Disorder and are seeking help to get reestablished. 4) Other local emergencies would also qualify such as Flood victims ect We realize at CWC we can’t do everything for everyone, but we can do something for someone . All donations are tax receipt able Cant wait to get this up and running For HIS glory. P.Larry
