I liked the youthful tone of the chorus being built around chanting ‘come on out and play.’ The breakdown was not inspired by the breakdown in ‘Born to Run’ as many people have theorized but by the middle section of a song by the Goo Goo Dolls called ‘Black Balloon.’ I experimented with the breakdown while recording it including adding extra guitars playing a harmony part to the notes of the breakdown but it sounded like a bad 80s hair band kind of thing and that idea went out the window real quick. On the album Greg Behan adds the call and response at the end. I love the passion he puts into everything he does as a musician and I wanted that on this song. This song was our opener for practically every show in 2014. I don’t know how often we’ll play it in the future, you have to make cuts when you play shorter sets opening for people or playing on showcases but if we time for it it’ll be there.
