1. Floyd Mayweather won last night in a rather predictable and boring fashion (yawn). The fight had its moments, but largely went just like 90% of Floyds fights. Most people knew deep down inside that Maidana was not the guy to end the Mayweather streak. 2. Kenny Bayless has always been regarded as one of the best referees in Vegas, but his reputation took a serious hit last night. The constant jumping in to separate the fighters, many times when they werent even tangled, was unnecessary and frustrating, and quite frankly, was the kind of action that will often give fuel to those that insist that fights or fixed, or at the very least slanted to give one fighter an advantage over the other. Bayless will have to work hard in his next few high profile appearances to remove the stink of this one. 3. Charging $75 for what was put on PPV last night is not a good business practice. Its like the housing bubble of 2008, and it will undoubtedly burst at some point in the near future. Boxing is not in a strong enough position to ask for that much from the casual, and very skeptical, sports fan that exists today. For those casual fans that watched, especially those not understanding the nuances and intricacies of the sport, last night was probably frustrating and boring. Those people wont spend another $75 again. Wasnt it just 2-3 years ago that PPVs were $50? Still too much, but better than $75. 4. Yes, the Mayweather vs Pacquiao talk started again last night. If it ever happens, wonderful, but after 6 or 7 years of countless excuses, bickering, yelling, speculation, accusations, and arguing amongst fan boys, why does anyone still care? At this point its not worth devoting a ton of energy to, until both men are on stage together at a press conference announcing that the contracts have been signed. 5. Leo Santa Cruz vs Guillermo RIgondeaux next? Yes! Lets hope we get to see that by the end of the year. Although its hard to envision a scenario where Santa Cruz beats Rigo, it is still a fight between two top guys in a division, and both should be commended for that, regardless of the outcome. Santa Cruzs style is just what Rigo needs to make him more appealing to fight fans, especially if Santa Cruz can land something big to make it interesting.
