1 John 2:15,17 - Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever. Anne Hasseltine is her name. Most likely, none of you have ever heard of her. She is a hero of faith. She met an energetic, dynamic disciple named Adoniram Judson in 1809 as he was preparing to go to India as a missionary. They fell in love and he wrote a letter to her father asking for his blessing to marry her and have her join him overseas. Here is a portion of the letter Adoniram penned. I ask whether you will consent to part with your daughter early next spring, to see her no more in this world? Anne will be subject to the hardships and sufferings of missionary life. Will you consent to her being exposed to the dangers of the ocean, the hot climate of India, to every kind of want and distress, to degradation, insult, persecution, and perhaps a violent death? Can you consent to this for the sake of Him who left His heavenly home to die for her and for you? Can you consent to this in the hope of meeting your daughter in the world of glory, with the crown of righteousness...and acclamations of praise from her Savior for those who will be saved because of her sacrifice? Her father let HER make that decision. She said Yes. Her parents encouraged her to follow the Lord with her new husband. If you are a parent, would that make your heart skip-a-bit? Me-thinks your answer is yes. She never returned home. Anne Hasseltine died in her land of ministry. Anne made a magnanimous life-decision to love God more than the things of this world. We all must make decisions like that, on a daily basis. God never called disciples to ease, but to difficulty....resulting in joy. Its possible that God is squeezing in on some of you. Its decision time. Do you love me more than the world? If so, prove it. F.H.P. Pastor Tim
