1 John Chapter 2: 7-8 Dear friends, I am not writing you a new command but an old command that you have had from the beginning. The old command is the message you have heard. Yet I am writing you a new command, which is true in Him and in you, because the darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining. --- John is basically establishing that he isnt coming to them with an newly invented doctrine, but an command from the old testament and with one that they all are or should be familiar with. John goes on to say, Yes you have heard of this command! John speaks to them on a spiritual level of respect, and just because he personally walked with Jesus or has the anointing as an Apostle he doesnt Lord over them or try to take their dignity. John goes on to tell them that even though the Old testament has been replaced by the new or from darkness to light there are still many scriptures that pertain to us because Jesus repeated many of them when he was here. Actually much of what Jesus had taught was in the Old testament, but he gave an completion or better said, “Up-ed the annie” , or set high higher standards and goals. The people in the Old Testament were in spiritual darkness so to say, but through the blood of Christ and Jesus being that perfect sacrifice we can now walk in the light. Back in the old testament days a priest had to enter the “temple”, and sacrifice animals to the Lord, but now through the shed blood of Christ when we ask Jesus for forgiveness and ask Him to come into our lives we receive the “Holy Spirit”. Through the “Holy Spirit” our eyes and ears are opened to receive the spiritual things from God and so we will understand scripture and be able to enter boldly into the throne of Grace and make prayer and know that God has heard us.
