1 July 1867 ‘The Mater reported to the Board that William Rowe a pauper inmate had absconded from the House on 30th June taking with him the Workhouse Clothes which he was then wearing and that due enquiry had been made and was still in progress to discover what became of him.’ Oh dear, I wonder whether they found him? Theres no mention of him for the remainder of our July records, but keep an eye out and we might see him pop up later on in the year - who knows?
