1 KINGS Chap. 21 cont. – TERESA’S EASY RENDITION 16 On hearing that Naboth is dead, Ahab rose and went to grab the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite. 17 Jehovah said to Elijah the Tishbite: 18 “Go, see King Ahab of Israel in Samaria. There he is grabbing the vineyard of Naboth. 19 Tell him, ‘This is what Jehovah has said, ‘Have you murdered and also landgrabbed? In the place where the dogs licked the blood of Naboth, there the dogs will also lick your blood, yes, yours.’” 20 Ahab asked Elijah: “Are you looking for me, O my enemy?” Elijah answered: “Yes, I’m looking for you because you’ve done what’s bad in the eyes of Jehovah. 21 Jehovah has said, ‘I’m going to send disaster on you, wipe out your successors, and cut off from Ahab ‘anyone who urinates on a wall’, every helpless and worthless one in Israel. 22 I’ll make your house like the house of Jeroboam son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha son of Ahijah, for provoking me and for making Israel sin. 23 As for Jezebel, ‘The dogs will eat Jezebel in a plot of land in Jezreel. 24 Anyone of Ahab who died in the city will be eaten by dogs, and any who died in the field will be eaten by birds of the sky. 25 No one was like Ahab, who did what was bad in the eyes of Jehovah, at the urging of his wife Jezebel. 26 He acted very detestably by worshiping imitation gods, just like what the Amorites did, whom Jehovah had driven away from the sons of Israel.” 27 On hearing this, Ahab tore his garments and wore sackcloth instead. He went on a fast, lay in sackcloth, and walked repentantly. 28 Jehovah said to Elijah the Tishbite: 29 “Have you seen how Ahab repented because of me? Since he humbled himself before me, I won’t bring the disaster during his lifetime, but during the time of his son. End of Chapter 21
