1 Minute Devotional (Friday March 14, 2014) The devotional today is from Sunday’s message “It’s More Than Words – Giving Thanks to God” (Psalm 116:12). Text: What shall I render unto the LORD for all his benefits toward me? Psalm 116:12 How can I repay the LORD for all the good He has done for me? Psalm 116:12 (HCSB) God has been good to us. All good things come from Him. As Christians, we recognize we are to be stewards of all that God has given us. We are to be faithful stewards in every area of our life. T. T. Crabtree explains what we will give account for. • We will give an account to God of how we spend our time. We will be held accountable for how much of our time we gave to witnessing to the lost. We will give an account of how much time we spent in helping those in need and visiting those who were sick. In Ephesians 5:15–16, we read, “See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” • We shall give an account of how we have used our tongue. “Every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment” (Matthew 12:36). Every day each of us speaks enough words to fill a book. So much is said that could and should go unsaid. Our gossip, our lies, and the hurtful things we have said about another person, even if true, will all be witnesses against us in the day of judgment. We are always to speak in a Christlike manner. “To him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God” (Psalm 50:23). We will give an account of the good and bad we have spoken. • We are all charged with the responsibility of using the talents that we have been given by God. Some people can sing beautifully, and some can teach. Some can preach, and others are given the talent to witness. Some are given the talent of intercessory prayer. We are all given some talent, and we will all be held accountable for how we use our talent. • We will give an account of how we have used the opportunities to witness that have opened to us. (Matthew 28:19-20) Some Christians witness whenever the opportunity presents itself. They speak of Christ at the hair salon or gym. They invite people to come to church while they do their grocery shopping. Some tell of the love of Christ over their fishing rods and around the campfire at deer camp. They take every opportunity to use their talent for witnessing. But many do not. Many find themselves talking about anything other than God’s work. How does God know we love him? By our doing something about it. This begins with receiving his blessed Son as our Savior. Larry Hudson Please feel free to share and/or to respond!
