1 Minute Devotional (Monday September 15, 2014) The devotional today is from Sunday’s message “Finishing Well Individually”, third sermon in the Series on our 50th Anniversary Theme - “Starting Well – Finishing Well” – (2 Timothy 4:7-8) Text: I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: 8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. 2 Timothy 4:7-8 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 There is reserved for me in the future the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on that day, and not only to me, but to all those who have loved His appearing. 2 Timothy 4:7-8 (HCSB) Last week’s devotionals focused on “Starting Well”. To “start well” spiritually is to be “born again” (John 3). It is to begin a relationship with God and His Son based on the redemptive work of Christ upon the cross. This week’s devotionals will focus on how we can “Finish Well” in the Kingdom of God. Paul knows that he is approaching the end of his life and ministry. He is able to look back over these last years of his life and know that he had given it his all and had been faithful to his Lord. Therefore, Paul is able to give this great testimony (2 Timothy 4:7-8), which has inspired many. On the road to Damascus (Acts 9:1-22), Paul met the risen Christ and began a personal relationship with Him. He had started well. He began his journey with Christ with the end in mind. Paul is giving his testimony, not only to Timothy but also to all of us down through the ages. His testimony is full of meaning for us today. May it inspire us in our journey that having “started well” we may “finish well”. To prepare for this week’s devotionals read Acts 9 and 2 Timothy 4.
