1 Minute Devotional (Tuesday November 25, 2014) The devotionals this week are from Sunday Mornings Sermon “Starting Points for Intercessory Prayer” Series – “What it takes to develop our Vision and Mission” Text: Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest. Matthew 9:38 Therefore, pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.” Matthew 9:38 (HCSB) The devotionals over the last two weeks were based upon the Lord’s Prayer, which forms a base for all Christian prayers. The question is, how do I expand upon that prayer. When I start to pray an intercessory prayer for people who do not know God through Christ, what should my prayer list include? The following are some suggestions. Ask the Father for people who will tell others the good news. In our text today, Jesus called these people workers and told His disciples to ask the Lord of the harvest to send them into the ripened fields. Who are these workers? They are the ones who witness to our friends and family. They invite them to church. They lead them to Christ, and maintain a nurturing relationship with them. The harvest may indeed be ripe, but without workers, it will not be reaped. We can pray for the Father to raise up people in our church and our city who will tell others the good news. We can ask Him to send workers out of our church and into the homes, businesses and institutions of our community. This prayer must be more personal. We are also to ask the Father to help “me to go wherever You would send me”. An important request is for the Father to open the minds of sinners to the truth. “Paul writes that the god of this age afflicts the minds of lost people, preventing them from receiving the Good News message (2 Corinthians 4:4). He reminds us that evangelism is spiritual warfare. Reaping the harvest will involve more than proclaiming the promise of new life through Christ. It will involve wrestling against the powers and rulers of this present age who hold our friends and family members spiritually captive. Remember that Jesus entered His season of earthly ministry only after a period of prolonged fasting and spiritual warfare through which he overcame the evil one.” (Daniel Allen) We are to ask the Father to bind Satan who attempts to blind the minds of lost people and to send the Holy Spirit to prepare the minds of the lost to the good news message. Pastor Larry Please feel free to share and/or to respond! Scriptures are from the King James Version unless otherwise noted. Daily reading: See below! Pray or do: Pray the request which are underlined in the devotional. If you do not want to receive, the 1 Minute Devotional please let me know and you will be removed from the distribution list. BONUS MATERIAL PRAYING FOR THE YET TO BELIEVE God will not violate the will of a person! And yet, it is prayer that changes hearts and opens minds to consider the gospel that peels off blinders and allows them to perceive light. It is prayer that pulls our loved ones out of the fire, as if we were raiding hell itself, hating the garment spotted with the flesh. The redemption has been secured, but it must be appropriated (John 3:16; 1 John 2:2). 1. Pray that the lost will be saved according to the will of God (1 Tim. 2:1-4; 1 John 5:13-15). 2. Pray that the Lord of the harvest will send laborers and they will witness to your family and friends (Matt. 9:37-38). 3. Pray that Christians will be a loving example of Christ for the lost. “By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13:35). See also Jude 1:22.
