1 Minute Devotional (Wednesday October 10, 2013) The devotional today is from Sunday Morning’s Message “What God Wants us To Be and Do!” Romans 12-15 Text: Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. 10 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another; Romans 12:9-10 Love sincerely. Hate evil. Hold on to what is good. 10 Be devoted to each other like a loving family. Excel in showing respect for each other. Romans 12:9-10 (GW) The apostle Paul gives us a description of what the local congregation should be like. Verse 10, in God’s Word (GW) translation, says “Be devoted to each other like a loving family”. The church is to be like a “loving family”. We should love each other in sincerity and truth. We should “excel” in respecting each other. Our words and actions should demonstrate kindness to each other. When we love we will work “no ill” (13:10) towards each other. Love in the church will be demonstrated by edifying, exhorting and encouraging each other. While God has given gifts of edification and exhortation to select individuals (12:8), all of us can purposefully guard our words and actions so we are edifying and encouraging each other. As Paul says, “Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.” (Romans 14:19) Whenever people work and worship together there will be times when we offend and when we are offended. Therefore it is extremely important that we learn and practice forgiving one another. Do not let the enemy of your soul and the church bait you with offense. Love because He first loved you.
