1) Moon Watch Thursday October 2nd (7:30pm) Powerful telescopes will be set up on Thursday October 2nd to view the Moon up close like many of you will never have seen it before. Everyone in Ireland is invited to come along at 7:30pm free of charge to see the Moon in stunning detail at Astronomy Irelands Headquarters in Dublin (map below). The Moon is the mos t impressive object you will ever see in a telescope being so large and full of fine detail. The half a billion pixel image that you can zoom in on at the Moon Watch webpage below gives you some idea of the impressive detail you will see! But live views of the craters with mountains at their centres and subtle fine detail have to be seen directly in a telescope to be believed. This Moon Watch is being organised as the first in our new season of public telescope nights, but also to promote the societys extremely popular Evening Classes which take place exactly one week later (see below). There will also be free space posters for everyone who comes along to our Headquarters in Blanchardstown for Moon Watch and free tea, coffee & biscuits too. Map and directions to our HQ is at astronomy.ie/map There is a special webpage with more information about the Moon Watch and that half a billion pixel Moon map at: astronomy.ie/moonwatchoct2014.php This will be an amazing event so please share this email and get all your friends and family to come along!
