1 PET 3:20-21 who in former times did not obey, when God waited patiently in the days of Noah, during the building of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were saved through water. And baptism, which this prefigured, now saves you – not as a removal of dirt from the body, but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, We see a comparison of how at the time of Noah only 8 people were saved through the baptism of water – it was raining and that was external sign but there was a spiritual cleansing as well through our baptism. We are saved through Jesus Christ. Baptism is the external sign of the inward grace. In the olden days they have a flight of steps going down on one side where the people went and immersed themselves in the water and came up from the other side. It symbolized dying to your sins and the world and coming out alive to a new life in Christ. You leave your sins and you are rising in the greater glory of God. A lot of people say our infant baptism is invalid. No matter how many times you are baptised it all remains the same unless literally you are transformed.
