1 Peter 4:3-6 For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries: Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you: Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead. For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit. Those who believe in Jesus are covered by His blood – delivered to a life that turns from all iniquity. We must strive to turn away from it, and remain in Christ. We struggle, and we most certainly stumble, but we continue to turn away and fight the good fight - because we are headed the direction of the will of God. We are able to stand firm because God equips us to do so – His Holy Spirit lives within us. Surrounded by His love and pursued always by His grace, we ought to be humbled and in deep gratitude for Jesus who paid the ultimate price to reconcile us to God. Do not feel shame for turning from sin. Doing what is right is rarely easy, and comes with a cost. In following Jesus we recognize the cost and have the courage to pay it; the courage to carry our cross as Jesus carried His. Put away the old self, and embrace the new.
