1) Richard Griffiths- series producer John Nathan-Turners hypothetical choice for the 8th Doctor, as illustrated by the late Phil Bevan in Doctor Who Magazine #255. 2) The imposing and mysterious version of the First Doctor from Japanese publisher Hayakawa Bunkos translated edition of the book Doctor Who in an Exciting Adventure with the Daleks. 3) David Banks, a.k.a. The Greenpeace Doctor (named for his t-shirt). The former Cyberleader was Jon Pertwees co-star and understudy in the stage play The Ultimate Adventure and had to fill in for a few performances when Pertwee fell ill. images.wikia/tardis/images… 4) Graeme Harper (future director of many Classic and New Series episodes) as one of the faces glimpsed during the mind-bending battle from The Brain of Morbius. 5) Arabella Weir as the alternative Doctor from Exile, part of the Big Finish audio series Doctor Who: Unbound. Made to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the show, each play dealt with a different What if scenario. 6) Unbound Doctor Ian Brooker, who appears very, very briefly at the end of the story Full Fathom Five. 7) Most of the obscured Doctors in the picture shouldnt be read into too much, but thats Paul McGanns chin, so if it makes you feel better, you can believe that this is the McGann-ish Doctor from Lance Parkins novel The Infinity Doctors. 8) Alternative 4th Doctor Trevor Martin, from the stage play Doctor Who and the Seven Keys to Doomsday. 9) The Other- a mysterious and complicated figure from the Doctors past. Vaguely hinted at in the 7th Doctors TV stories, the idea was expanded on in the novelization of Remembrance of the Daleks and several of the 90s novels released by Virgin Publishing. 10) Morbius Doctor (and legendary show author/ script editor) Robert Holmes. Smoking a pipe, of course. 11) The 42nd Doctor (based on actor Ian Richardson), who appeared in Valeyard of the Daleks a scrapped epilogue from Lance Parkins novel The Dying Days. 12) The Watcher- a peculiar manifestation of the Doctor encountered in the 4th Doctors final story, Logopolis 13) Derek Jacobi as the troubled and semi-delusional author from the Doctor Who: Unbound story Deadline. 14) Morbius Battle Doctor George Gallacio. 15) Jon Culshaws famous send-up of the 4th Doctor from various episodes of the radio & TV series Dead Ringers. 16) My own fan-fabrication, the 12th Doctor as played by actress Ruth WIlson. 17) Revered show producer Philip Hinchcliffe as one of the Morbius Battle Doctors. 18) Show director Christopher Barry (R.I.P.) as one of the Morbius Doctors. 19) Unbound Doctor Geoffrey Bayldon- an alternative First Doctor from the stories Auld Mortality and A Storm of Angels. 20) Richard Hurndall as the First Doctor (The Five Doctors). 21) Again, the obscured faces shouldnt be read into too much- but thats the chin of alternative Doctor Alex McQueen, from the excellent audio series UNIT: Dominion. 22) Barbara Benedetti as the alternative 7th Doctor from various fan-films made by Seattle International Films from 1984-1988. 23) Muldwych, an elderly Time Lord hermit from the 90s novels Birthright and Happy Endings. Heavily implied to be the Doctor from a far-off future. 24) Morbius Doctor Chris Baker. 25) The Valeyard (Michael Jayston), the Doctors evil future incarnation first encountered in The Trial of a Time Lord (and later numerous books, audio plays, etc). 26) The first of the two Doctors portrayed in various trading cards produced by Cadet Sweets in 1964 (making this the great-granddaddy of all alternative Doctors). 27) The Dream Lord, from Amys Choice- a hallucinatory manifestation of the Eleventh Doctors dark side. 28) The Curator of the Undergallery (The Day of the Doctor). An enigmatic figure who resembled the 4th Doctor and might possibly be a retired Doctor from the very distant future wearing an old favorite face. 29) The pragmatic and callous (and gun-toting!) Unbound Doctor from Full Fathom Five, as played by David Collings. 30) Nicholas Briggs, the Lon Chaney of Alternative Doctors, here as the Nth version from various Audio Visuals fan productions and the Doctor Who Magazine comic strip Party Animals, where he appeared to be a far future Doctor. The latter appearance may or may not have been the Gallifreyan agent Shayde, who adopted an identical disguise later during the 8th Doctors comic strip tenure. Briggs also played other alternative Doctors in Doctor Who Unbound, various stage plays, the audio version of Seven Keys to Doomsday and, sort of, in the 8th Doctor audio Minuet in Hell. Hes also the current official voice of the Daleks, Cybermen, Judoon, and Ice Warriors- so maybe its more accurate to say hes Doctor Whos equivalent of Mel Blanc. ;) 31) Jim Broadbent as one of the Doctors from the epic 1999 Comic Relief sketch The Curse of Fatal Death, penned by a young Steven Moffat. 32) Morbius Doctor (and legendary series director) Douglas Camfield. He looks like he wouldve been a fun Doctor, doesnt he? 33) The Ninth Doctor, Christopher Eccleston. 34) The great David Warner as the Unbound Third Doctor from Sympathy for the Devil and Masters of War. Hes also encountered (off-camera) by the 6th Doctor in the audio story 100, which implies that the Unbound Doctors all exist in alternative universes running parallel to the shows real one. 35) The second Cadet Sweets Doctor. 36) The Doctor from a proposed 1980s cartoon by animation studio Nelvana. The idea never developed past some (really interesting). 37) Fatal Death Doctor Richard E. Grant, who would play another version of the Doctor 4 years later (see #52). 38) Lenny Henry as the Doctor from this 1985 sketch that charmingly sent up mid-80s Doctor Who (as well as Thatcher-era politics). 39) The Sixth Doctor, Colin Baker- here wearing his costume from the stage play The Ultimate Adventure. 40) The Third Doctor, Jon Pertwee. 41) The Fourth Doctor, Tom Baker. 42) The Second Doctor, Patrick Troughton. 43) The Tenth Doctor, David Tennant. 44) Donna Noble (Catherine Tate), transformed into The DoctorDonna as the result of an accidental human/ Time Lord metacrisis (Journeys End). 45) The other half of the Metacrisis- a human copy of the Tenth Doctor grown from his severed hand. 46) The Eleventh Doctor, Matt Smith. 47) The Fifth Doctor, Peter Davison. 48) The Seventh Doctor, Sylvester McCoy- dressed in his costume from the 90s New Adventures novels. 49) The Doctor (Mark Gatiss) from the 1999 Doctor Who Night sketch The Web of Caves. 50) Dr. Who (Peter Cushing) the human inventor of T.A.R.D.I.S.. He appeared in the two 1960s Dalek films, as well as a long-lost radio show pilot. 51) Fatal Death Doctor Hugh Grant. Result! 52) The briefly-canonical original Ninth Doctor (Richard E. Grant, again) from the 2003 BBC webcast The Scream of the Shalka. Further adventures were planned, but scrapped when the BBC decided to bring the show back to television. 53) The First Doctor, William Hartnell. 54) The Eighth Doctor, Paul McGann. 55) Fatal Death Doctor Joanna Lumley. 56) The Doctors nameless past incarnation who fought in the Time war, played by John Hurt (in The Name of the Doctor, The Night of the Doctor, and The Day of the Doctor).
