1 Samuel 16:7 - The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. - TopicsExpress

1 Samuel 16:7 - The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart. 1 Peter 3:3,4 - Your beauty should not come from outward adornment...instead, it should be that of your inner self...which is of great worth in Gods sight. Selfies = photos taken by the subject of the photo, usually at arms length. Note: I am not a selfie-grinch on a campaign to put a halt to this fun phenomenon of the digital camera era. Ive taken selfies and have chuckled through the process. (Though mine have usually not been serious selfies.) Caution - Once again, an innocent, enjoyable activity may have a deeper meaning that needs to be analyzed - especially by young ladies. * One study estimates that a third of all photos taken by people ages 18-24 are selfies. * Photographer, Lauren Greenfield, writes, There is an element of exhibitionism that seems to define the contemporary experience of being a girl. Selfies are images of the self for the consumption and approval of others. We play photographer, model, and editor, asking ourselves if we look o.k., before inviting feedback from our network of acquaintances. In a not-so-subtle way, these photo displays imply, Do I look good? Will somebody compliment me? Your opinion of my appearance is crucial to my self-worth. Greenfield also wrote, Appearance is the primary canvas on which girls express their identities and insecurities. Q: Do we really want to be known and admired primarily through the visual images we make of ourselves? I hope not. Obviously, that is not the primary viewpoint of our Lord. See todays verses. God reminds us to keep a balanced perspective. Physical attractiveness is minor in comparison to our internal character. * There is a certain grace to allowing OTHERS to photograph us, and select the photographs THEY like best. An updated version of Proverbs 27:2 might read, Let anothers camera capture you, and not your own. Something to think about. F.H.P. Pastor Tim
