1. United Way is tasked to take calls from individuals that need help AND work to coordinate volunteers to provide that help. 2. Salvation Army is tasked to provide food/water. 3. Salvation Army and Helping Hands are taking donations in Columbus, MS. No one who comes stating a need will be turned away. 4. Red Cross is opening a shelter at Southside Baptist Church, 100 Nashville Ferry Rd E at 11 a.m. 5. According to findings so far from the Emergency Management team in Lowndes County, the worst hit in county is in District 3. In the city, it is in East Columbus, near Hwy 69/182. 6. According to the county and city elected officials, the immediate need is tree and debris clearing. All the county roads are open; city roads closed are in East Columbus (Browder Rd / Airline Rd area). They have crews working there to clear roads. 7. Private property needs are houses to be tarped. If ANYONE knows of a source for tarps, they are needed. Cindy Lawrence with EMA says they have some in Jackson, but we’d have to go get them. 8. 4-County still has 5,000 without power; City has about 1,000 without power. They both have crews out replacing poles and restoring power. 9. As you may know, professional emergency response people (police, fire) are not allowed to offer assistance on private property, so it falls to the volunteers! Please let us know if you have any questions or can offer any assistance.
