1) What is the day of atonement? 2) What does it mean to afflict our souls? Is it to fast as Judaism claims? 3) Why is it important to observe this day? We can let scripture (the Word of Elohim) and the definition of the words answer these important questions. - ************************************** 1) Day of atonement - atonement: כָּפַר kâphar kaw-far A primitive root; to cover (specifically with bitumen); figuratively to expiate or condone, to placate or cancel: - appease, make (an) atonement, cleanse, disannul, forgive, be merciful, pacify, pardon, to pitch, purge (away), put off, (make) reconcile (-liation). - - Lev 16:29 And this shall be a statute FOR EVER unto you: that in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, ye shall afflict your souls, and do no work at all, whether it be one of your own country, or a stranger that sojourneth among you: Lev 16:30 ((( For on that day shall the *priest make an atonement for you, to cleanse you, that ye may be clean from all your sins before YHVH. ))) Lev 16:31 It shall be a sabbath of rest unto you, and ye shall afflict your souls, by a statute FOR EVER. - *Now to explain the priest making atonement for you part... it is important to know that we are no longer under a Levitical preisthood and Yahshua is now our high priest after the order of Melchisedec. Heb 7:11 If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron? Heb 7:12 For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law. Heb 6:20 Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Yahshua, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec. Heb 7:26 For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens; Heb 7:27 Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the peoples: for this he did ONCE, when he offered up himself. - ************************************** 2) Afflicting our soul - afflict: עָנָה ‛ânâh aw-naw A primitive root (possibly rather identical with H6030 through the idea of looking down or browbeating); to depress literally or figuratively, transitively or intransitively (in various applications). (sing is by mistake for H6030.): - abase self, afflict (-ion, self), answer, chasten self, deal hardly with, defile, exercise, force, gentleness, humble (self), hurt, ravish, sing , speak , submit self, weaken, X in any wise In short to afflict your soul is to examine and to deal hardly with yourself in order to be in line with the word of Yah. (check motives, intents and to rid yourself of sin) Afflicting does not mean fasting as Judaism claims...the reason they like to associate the two is because they have no offering for their sin - they deny that Yah has come in the flesh. - ************************************** 3) Observing - It is important to observe this day because firstly YAH commanded us to and through out the whole book YAH makes it clear we love him by being obedient to Him. Joh 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments. - - Secondly, they are a shadow of things to come... so by observing what YAH commanded us to observe, it prepares us for what is soon going to take place. Col 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Col 2:17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ. - - And thirdly, it is a blessing to be able to do what is pleasing before Him. His law is holy, just and good. Psa 119:77 Let thy tender mercies come unto me, that I may live: for thy law is my delight. Rom 7:12 Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good. - ************************************** Times: October 5th at even - High Sabbath (ninth day of the seventh month of Yah ) October 6th at even - Day of Atonement ( tenth day of the seventh month of Yah ) ---- Leviticus 23:27-32 ---- ************************************** Chain of scriptures about the end times and the Day of Atonement (not all of the scriptures, but a good amount of them.) - - Rev 3:3 Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee. - - Mar 13:33 Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is. - - Mat 24:35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. Mat 24:36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. Mat 24:37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. Mat 24:38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, Mat 24:39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. Mat 24:40 Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Mat 24:41 Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Mat 24:42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. Mat 24:43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. Mat 24:44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh. Mat 24:45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season? (((( Mat 24:46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. )))) Mat 24:47 Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods. Mat 24:48 But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; Mat 24:49 And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken; Mat 24:50 The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of, Mat 24:51 And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. - - Rev_1:3 Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand. - - Mat 25:1 Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. Mat 25:2 And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. Mat 25:3 They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: Mat 25:4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. Mat 25:5 While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. Mat 25:6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. Mat 25:7 Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. Mat 25:8 And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. Mat 25:9 But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. Mat 25:10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. Mat 25:11 Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. Mat 25:12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. Mat 25:13 Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh. - - Rev_1:7 Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen. - - Joe 2:10 The earth shall quake before them; the heavens shall tremble: the sun and the moon shall be dark, and the stars shall withdraw their shining: Joe 2:11 And YHVH shall utter his voice before his army: for his camp is very great: for he is strong that executeth his word: for the day of YHVH is great and very terrible; and who can abide it? Joe 2:12 Therefore also now, saith YHVH, ---> turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning:
