10,000 !!!!!!!! What a start to 2015. We must be doing something right as we welcome our 10,000th friend to the Page .Thank you all for your support and interest - glad you like us. So heres a question to start the year. Weve been trying to decide which was our favourite archaeological discovery of 2014 (and there have been some great ones reported on this page). We have decided its a tie between Joe Wegner and the U.Penn teams amazing new Abydos Dynasty (Dynasty 16B) discovery of the unknown pharaoh Senebkay (January); and Hierakonpolis’s new tomb 72 under the direction of Renee Friedman (May). Not just meticulous archaeology and amazing discoveries, but excavations that change our view of Egyptian history and fill in gaps in our understanding of the Second Intermediate Period at Abydos and the Pre- and Protodynastic Period at Hierakonpolis. Would you choose a different discovery? Tell us what you think! And if you missed the stories first time round (where were you!!) you can check them out here: Hierakonpolis And if you missed the stories first time round hierakonpolis-online.org/index.php/explore-the-predynastic-cemeteries/hk6-elite-cemetery/tomb-72 Abydos news.nationalpost/2014/01/22/meet-woseribre-senebkay-the-unknown-3600-year-old-researchers-just-unearthed-in-egypt/ lots of great pics
