10/01/14- SNN Today Dallas, Texas- Health authorities have confirmed the West African epidemic has entered the United States yesterday and has led up to 20 patients being in contact with an Ebola victim. The first man diagnosed with Ebola in the United States, a 42-year-old Liberian citizen Thomas Eric Duncan, was discharged from a Dallas hospital four days after his landing, untreated. Mayor of Dallas Mike Rawlings says, “miscommunication happened and there is no excuse for” the Texas hospital overlooking Duncan’s Ebola symptoms even after he clearly stated he was traveling from West Africa. Reports show Duncan who was visiting family members that live in this country has been in contact with five children at four schools. This illness has caused 3,091 deaths in West Africa including one pregnant woman suffering from Ebola who Duncan had helped minutes before her death. The Director of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Dr. Thomas Frieden, says the critically conditioned patient is in isolation and under intensive medical care at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital.
