10/03/2013 The tribune foils the plot Acts 23:23-24, 31-33 Acts 23:23-24, 31-33 Then he called two of the centurions and said, "Get ready two hundred soldiers, with seventy horsemen and two hundred spearmen to go as far as Caesarea at the third hour of the night. 24 Also provide mounts for Paul to ride and bring him safely to Felix the governor." 31 So the soldiers, according to their instructions, took Paul and brought him by night to Antipatris. 32 And on the next day they returned to the barracks, letting the horsemen go on with him. 33 When they had come to Caesarea and delivered the letter to the governor, they presented Paul also before him. ESV Comments / Questions: - These 200 soldiers + 200 spearmen + 70 horsemen were almost half of Lysias the Tribune’s forces. - Lysias evidently wanted to be sure that this Roman citizen was taken safely to Felix his boss, and hand the problem of Paul, over to him. - What kind of response do you think Paul expected, to the secret news from his nephew? - When have you asked God for something, and He did something much bigger than you expected? Ephesians 3:20-21 Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen. ESV What got to my heart? Prayer, Action, Thoughts.
