10/15/14 MS/HS ANNOUNCEMENTS: October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. SADD is doing its part with a Hat Day on Friday. It costs $1.00 to participate. You provide the hat, no masks are allowed. Please register in the lobby before school Friday morning to wear your hat. Teachers will receive a list of students who have paid to wear one. FRIDAY morning in the LOBBY - $1.00 – WEAR YOUR PINK TOO!! Mrs. Miller is looking for 2-3 students to put flyers on cars at Fridays football game about the Celebrate My Drive campaign that we are starting today. SADD will have a chance to win $25,000.00 or more. See Mrs. Miller if you can help. This is before the game you wont miss the game. SADD members that are working at Hollys moms house after school today, try to carpool together so there is room in driveway. Mrs. Miller has directions if you need them. Tailgate this Friday, October 17, before the Perkins game. Hog Dog – Chips – Dessert – Drink for $2.00 a person. This will be held back by the FFA building. Starting today, October 15, Margaretta SADD will begin a campaign with State Farm. It is called Celebrate My Drive and it is to help educate our student drivers about no texting and driving while keeping 2 eyes on the road, 2 hands on the wheel. We would like to encourage everyone 14 yrs and older to register to vote during the days of Oct. 15th – 24th, this includes the weekends. Parents, relatives – anyone can vote for us as long as you are 14 yrs. old. You only register once, then just click on celebratemydrive and follow the prompts to vote daily. We will give you time during our announcements, starting today. So register at the website; celebratemydrive. We have a chance to win $25,000.00 up to $100,000.00 and a concert by Band Perry at our school for the community! Please help us succeed in this by casting your vote and getting others to vote also! There will be a link on our school website today if you want t go there and log on. All teachers who have 8th -12th graders will have a paper hanging up so if you have a smartphone, you need to download the QR reader and scan image. This is another option besides your computer Softball will have open gym this Sunday at Townsend from 6-8 p.m. for grades 7-12. Attention Yearbook Staff: There will be no meetings this week. Congratulations to Josh Stanley for his 9th place at the Cross-Country SBC meet Saturday. He was also named 2nd Team All SBC. Congratulations to Colton Schroer who competed in the State FFA Rural Soils CDE this past Saturday. Colton placed 5th overall in the state out of 191 contestants. He qualified for the state contest by placing 2nd in the district competition. Seneca East is hosting its third annual So You Think You Can Sing Vocal Talent Competition on November 8th in Tiger Auditoria at Seneca East High School. If you love to be on stage to share your vocal talent, this is the competition for you. There is a middle school (grades 6-8) and high school (grades 9-12) division with prize money and trophies being awarded in both divisions. This year our competition features touring a cappella groups from Tiffin University, so if you love to sing and be on stage, then come join us for a night of great music. Guidelines and entry forms are on Seneca Easts website at seneca-east.k12.oh.us under the community heading. Any Sophomore or Junior student that is interested in taking the PSAT (Preliminary SAT) / National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test can sign up to do so in the guidance office. The test will be given on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 starting at 8:00 a.m. in the computer lab. There is a $14 fee for students to take this test. The fee must be paid prior to the day of testing and is non refundable. Sept. 26 thru Nov. 1 - Everyone who comes to Lake Eerie Fear Fest at Ghostly Manor in Sandusky with a coupon, gets $5.00 OFF admission and $5 towards their school/school organization. SENIORS: The following scholarships are available in the Guidance Office: Elks Most Valuable Student. Cleveland Cavaliers First Merit Bank The Ohio State University Alumni of Erie County SENIORS: The Engineers Foundation of Ohio is offering a scholarship to a graduating senior who desires a career in engineering with the following criteria: have at least a 3.0 GPA; SAT score of Math+600, Reading or Composition=500; ACT score of Math=29, English=25; and a Resident of the state of Ohio. If you are interested, stop by the Guidance Office for an application. The Elks Emergency Educational Grant, Elks Legacy Awards and Elks National Foundation Scholarships are available by applying at elks.org/enf/scholars. A scholarship is available from Bowling Green State University if you have been admitted to the university, have a minimum 3.0 high school GPA, have a recommended minimum ACT score of 23 and interested in teaching science and/or math in any grade 4 through 12.
