10/15/1941: The plan for the POW camp in Birkenau is approved by Construction Director, SS Major Karl Bischoff and signed by Commandant Hoess. According to the plan, the site is to be divided by the main street of the camp. A railroad platform is planned to run alongside the street, To the left of the street and platform will be a quarantine camp, To the right administrative sections I and II, The whole site forms a rectangle surrounded by a barbed wire fence and watchtowers. The dimensions of this rectangle are 787 by 1236 yards. The plan calls for a total of 174 masonry residence barracks in the 3 sections.
