10/25/2014 On the road at 8:30 this morning. The highway was not very crowded and we had a bike lane. About 4 miles in we passed through Yulee in a blink of an eye. We continued on to Fernandina Beach. We made our way over the waterway and took a quick photo from the bridge. We then continued to the ferry and rode through Amelia Island. The roads were covered with old trees and branches formed into tunnels. As we were leaving Amelia Island we crossed over the George C Brady Bridge/fishing pier (photo op). As we were riding through Big Talbot state Park I noticed a spider web with the spider in it. Yup. A photo op. We also took a picture of Tom. The sun was bright and no clouds and I began to worry about sunburn even though my arms and legs have a pretty good tan. The only thing that happened at the end of the day are my tan lines are darker where my sleeves, shorts, and socks end. The strap for my helmet is now a white stripe in front of my ears. I look a little funny. We arrived at the Ferry to cross St. Johns River about 2 minutes prior to boarding started. Great timing. As we waited I took a few pics. On the opposite side the Pellicans were waiting our arrival. We were ready for lunch and as soon as we rode off the ferry we found Singletons Seafood Shack. Its been in business for years, survived hurricanes, lots of history inside and really good food. The waitress was in awe of our endeavor. She and a few of the staff wished us well as we were leaving. We continued on to Ponte Verda Beach. This is an awsome area. The homes lining the roads were beautiful. Each one more beautiful than the next and each complementing the other. The roads were not crowded with vehicles but there was a lot of activity by cyclists, runners and walkers. We eventually passed Sawgrass Country Club. Golfers will recognize this name. Again a beautiful area. Very high end. As we left the area we had about 15 miles to go. The sun still bright, and a decent wind pushing us. We pulled in to our hotel around 4 p m. Got out bathing suits on and went across the road to the beach. Yes, we went swimming. The water was 76 degrees and the sun was shining brightly. We walked to Puccinis Pizzeria for dinner. We actually had pizza. It wasnt like NY/NJ style but it tasted good on its own merits. A couple of cold beers and a walk in the dark back to the hotel, We rode 67.3 miles today. TOTAL MILES 1,569.1
