10-4-14. Today marks 3 years since my bi-lateral mastectomy. So today I am grateful for the lessons I learned during that recovery: 1 Living the Serenity Prayer is the only way to live fully. 2 That when you ask, God gives you the exact measure of resolve, or resiliency, or strength, or love, or courage you need for each day. 3 that friends who are willing to sit up all night in the hospital and hold your head while you react to anesthesia, or come and re-bandage you after your shower, or drive you to the doctor, or just come and hold your hand are angels here on earth.4 that I want to be Authentic- to be the Karlene I am, not the Karlene someone else thinks I should be and to that end, I want to spend each day growing spiritually and allow the peaceful feeling of serenity envelope my soul. 5 that many sisters before me fought for my right to choose the treatment plan best for me. In my case, a bi-lateral mastectomy seemed drastic, but then my pathology report finding 3 additional tumors-one in the healthy breast proved to be the best choice. Family, Friends, Faith: ever, ever, ever
