10.46am update: Severe Weather Warning IDV28000 Severe Weather Warning for damaging winds for people in the Wimmera, North Central, North East, South West, Central, West and South Gippsland and East Gippsland forecast districts Issued at 10:46 am EST on Saturday 17 August 2013. Weather Situation A trough over South Australia will reach western Victoria this afternoon then will slowly weaken. An intense low pressure system developing over the Southern Ocean will pass to the south of Tasmania Sunday night with an associated cold front expected to cross Victoria during Sunday. Damaging wind squalls over 90km/h are possible through parts of the Wimmera and Southwestern districts Saturday afternoon and evening and also along the south Gippsland coast. Damaging winds 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts around 100 km/h are forecast for parts of the Wimmera, North Central, North East, South West, Central, West and South Gippsland and East Gippsland forecast districts for Sunday. Elevated areas are most susceptible. Winds over Alpine areas are likely to experience gusts up to 120km/h during Sunday. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: Move vehicles under cover or away from trees. Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. Keep clear of fallen power lines. For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500.
