10 Bathroom Cleaning Tips 1. Shut the shower curtain when it’s not in use to prevent mold and mildew. 2. Wipe shower walls with a squeegee after every use to help prevent water and soap spots. 3. Most vinyl, synthetic, and cotton shower curtain liners can be cleaned in a washing machine using hot water and mild laundry detergent. Air-dry liners immediately after removing from the washer. 4. Before getting out of the bathtub, wipe the ring around the tub with your washcloth and soapy water. 5. Remove spots from your sink using a paste made of 1/2 cup of powdered borax and the juice of 1/2 lemon. Dab a sponge in the mixture, rub the stained area, and rinse with water. You can use this mixture on sinks made of any material. 6. To clean/disinfect toilets: add 1/4 cup bleach to the toilet bowl; let stand for 30 minutes. Scrub with a toilet brush, then flush. 7. To whiten a white porcelain enamel sink: Line the sink with paper towels and soak them in bleach. Let sit for 30 minutes and discard the towels. Rinse the sink with water to remove remaining bleach. Do not use this on technique on colored porcelain, as it may cause discoloration. 8. When drying towels, hang them on a towel rack or use two hooks to allow them to completely dry. 9. To clean buildup in drains: Once a month, pour 1 cup baking soda down the drain, followed by 1 cup of white vinegar; let sit 1 hour. Flush with hot water. 10. To clean hard water spots off faucets: Soap a paper towel in vinegar, wrap the towel around the area. Let stand 10 minutes and then wipe with a dry paper towel. This can be used for all types of fixtures except brass or colored fixtures, as vinegar may cause discoloration.
