10-DAY MAHAMASTAKABHISHEKA FOR BHAGAVAN BAHUBALI COMMENCES - KARKALA State Minister for Urban Development and Udupi District in-charge Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake inaugurated the ten-day Mahamastakabhisheka for the monolithic statue of Bhagavan Bahubali on the hill top of Karkala on January 21, Wednesday. Thousands of devotees have converged in the town to be a part of the great spectacle that takes place once in 12 years. In his address, Sorake spoke on the significance of Jainism and its contributions to the society. The message of peace, sacrifice and non-violence propagated by the Jain Teerthankaras and Bahubali are relevant at all times, he said. He also informed on this occasion that the state government has provided a grant of Rs 16 crore for the Mahamastakabhisheka apart from Rs 10 lakh for the cultural events. The cultural programmes to be organised as part of the Mahamastakabhisheka were inaugurated by K Abhayachandra Jain, State Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports. On this occasion a cheque for Rs 10 lakh was handed over by him to the Mastakabhisheka Committee Executive President MN Rajendra Kumar on behalf of the Department of Kannada and Culture. The exhibition arranged on the occasion was inaugurated by Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje. Dr D Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala inaugurated the ’Dharmachakra’ by spinning it. Presiding over the programme, he stressed the need for the society to derive inspiration from the noble ideals of Bahubali. Swasti Shree Lalithakeerthi Bhattaraka Pattacharyavarya Mahaswamiji of Karkala Jain Mutt and Swasti Shree Laxmi Sena Bhattaraka Pattacharyavarya Mahaswamiji of Kollapur Jain Mutt blessed the event. Karkala MLA Sunil Kumar, Chief Secretary of Mahamastakabhisheka Committee, M K Vijayakumar, Committee office bearers Harshendra Kumar, Dr Sridhar Kambli, TMC President Rehmath S Sheikh and many others were present. Mahamastakabhisheka rituals commence : The Mahamastakabhisheka rituals commenced later in the night at 8 pm with Jalabhisheka to the statue amid the chanting of slogans Boliya Bahubali Bhagavan Ki Jai. This was followed by Ksheerabhisheka and Chandanabhisheka. Rice powder, turmeric powder, sandalwood paste,Ashtagandha were also offered to Bahubali following a floral sprinkling. A flower garland measuring 60 feet too was offered to the statue of Tyagamurthi followed by Poorna Kumbha Abhisheka and Maha Mangalarathi. Source: MTNN
