10 DAYS FOR HUMAN RIGHTS: #8 - The Right to Freedom of Expression In October 2014, the global network to defend and promote freedom of expression (IFEX), reported that Chinese authorities had stepped up persecution of independent Tibetan news providers. They cited the cases of three writers who frequently provided information for external observers saying that their activities were aimed at destroying social stability and dividing the Chinese homeland.” “Every arrest of a Tibetan who tried to inform his peers and the outside world about the dramatic situation in Tibet plunges the region further into isolation,” Reporters Without Borders commented, adding that China was turning Tibet into an information blackhole. Violations to Tibetans freedom of expression are not limited to inside Tibet. In April 2014, Human Rights Watch released a 100 page report showing that Tibetan refugees in Nepal face a de facto ban on political protests, sharp restrictions on public activities promoting Tibetan culture and religion, and routine abuses by Nepali security forces. hrw.org/reports/2014/04/01/under-china-s-shadow
