10 December 1973: James Hesketh, 21-years-old, a soldier with the Queens Own Highlanders holding the rank of Private and was a Catholic from Clydebank, Dunbartonshire. He had been in Northern Ireland for only a week. The inquest heard that Pte Hesketh was a member of an 8-man foot patrol and was the last man in a line of soldiers. A 17-year-old girl was jailed for 5 years for intending to take away the Armalite rifle that was found in a house in Sebastopol Street. The rifle was used to kill Pte Hesketh. The judge told her: the part which you played verged on accessory to murder. You were there to secure the safe disposal of the rifle. In 1979, a 20-year-old man admitted the manslaughter of Pte Hesketh and 2 other soldiers and was given a 5-year recorded sentence. It was said that the man was in the junior wing of the IRA and had acted as a lookout. LEST WE FORGET!
