10. GOD GIVEN: Day 9 of We are STILL living in Year Zero. My Monsignor Donovan friends are gonna LOVE this one! Of all the songs on this album, this one is probably the one I have been most excited to post (lyrically). In the Year Zero storyline, we just had The Presence reveal itself all over the world, and rather than taking it as a warning and becoming better human beings, every religion is taking it as a sign of God, and telling everyone to prepare for judgment day because they were right. My favorite line of this song has to be I sure wouldnt want to be praying to the wrong piece of wood! I mean that just says it all. I dont like to diss peoples beliefs or spirituality, but what I cant get behind is all these people that are just awful/terrible people using God as a means to justify what they do or even worse making it OK to do their awful deeds because they use God as a crutch and say He will forgive them. I never understand how todays religions are any different than ancient religions or how much more believable the stories in the Holy Bible or the Quran than say the ancient Greek gods and goddesses. And worst of all I dont understand how people can think they are better than others because they are Christian or Jewish or Muslim or whatever, its always the God chose us sort of bull shit. I can go off for 3 hours about this, some songs are easier to tie into todays events and attitudes than others, but this song has got to be the easiest. I also cant believe I didnt think of the Gun/Cross logo in the video before Trent did. Hey man, please dont make a sound Take a look around Cant you see whats right in front of you?
