10 January. My second day of my photo challenge is Technology. Just a little about my background. I have assisted in the development, design, installation and testing of the first fiber optic computer system aboard our Naval ships and shore installations that were adopted and have become main stream and incorporated in the building design of our ships, submarines and shore facilities. I am extremely proud of that accomplishment because it made the job for our boys in uniform easier. Or harder according to how you want to look at it. I also took part in a project that would take masses amount of data input and you could select different searches to pull up data you needed in just seconds that affected several other programs. They had us all in a room so the soft ware boys could talk to us and when we told them what we wanted they started spewing out all the difficulties of designing a soft ware program. The Commander in charge simply said. When you get done, if you cant tell me how to operate it in two pages or less I will disapprove it. Smiled, got up, and walked out. The quote that came to mind was, Keep it simple stupid! I take a look around these days at the cars, phones, computers, houses and every aspect of our live and am in awe at what is hitting the streets. Jesus there is some nice stuff out there. I have an up to date phone and computer and try my best to keep up with technology but I have a tremendous respect for simplicity. I drive a 1979 Jeep CJ5 with a 304 V8. It is probably the most dangerous automobile on the road. Its bad ass, its simple and a blast to drive. Every time I drive it, it makes me smile. I also drive a 1978 Honda Gold Wing and a 1982 Gold Wing. I go anywhere I want with these bikes and thoroughly enjoy myself. No its not bigger than the new ones and rides a little rougher but I can change my air filter out in fifteen minutes versus 2 and a half hours at best with out dismantling my bike. I listen to all these people on their grand bikes about how good they are and in the same breath curse because they only get so many miles on their tires and how long it takes to change the air filter and how their bags arent as big as they used to be and how they have to pull a trailer to take all their shit with them and it just......cracks me up. I have two rust bucket Wings in my garage I rescued from the junk yard. One is a 1976 and the other a 1977. I hope some day to have these on the road. I like and love them for their simplicity. When they came out they were the latest technology and changed the motorcycle industry. Ill keep up with technology, because Im a firm believer if you dont you die. But I will try to keep my life simple. Keep it simple stupid. Try to keep something basic in your life to remind you of how good you do have it. It will help you say, Love Yall Mean It.
