Wollenhaupt worked with the fill crew and tried to assist Barret in cutting side slopes, but being unfamiliar with operating a grader on such steep embankments made him uneasy. Later Senior Chief Woods, Bass and Wollenhaupt walked the existing road as far as the ROK encampment. Wollenhaupt then worked with Morrosoli and his D-8 to rough grade the road.
