Tell nghĩa là kể cho ai đó nghe việc gì cho nên tell/told luôn được theo sau bởi những đại từ chỉ người như me, you, him, her, us, them, tên riêng... Với say/said, ta có thể sử dụng những cấu trúc sau: - say (something) Francis says she doesnt like chocolate. - say that (something) Mary said that the new song of Eminem was great. - say (something) to (a person) What did the teacher say to you when you failed the test? - (something), a person said. Nice to meet you, Harry said. Cứ nhớ là you say something và you tell somebody something ********************************************* 2. Danh từ số nhiều bất quy tắc. Đừng nói: I have three childrens. Hãy nói: I have three children. Hoặc: I have three kids. Số nhiều của child là children chứ không phải thêm s để thành số nhiều như các danh từ bình thường. Sau đây là một số danh từ bất quy tắc phổ biến: person / people man / men woman / women foot / feet tooth / teeth mouse / mice fish / fish crisis / crises nucleus / nuclei ********************************************* 3. Nói về tuổi tác. Đừng nói: My daughter has eight years. Cũng đừng nói: My daughter has eight years old. Mà hãy nói: My daughter is eight years old. - Khi nói về tuổi bằng tiếng Anh, chúng ta sử dụng động từ be (am/is/are) . Im thirty years old. . My wife is forty years old. . This house is 100 years old. - Ta cũng có thể bỏ years old . Im thirty. . My sister is fourteen. . I have two kids. One is six and the other is eight. - Khi tới sinh nhật của ai đó ta dùng turn + age . We had a big party when my mother turned fifty. . My husband’s turning forty next month. . My youngest cousin just turned three. ********************************************* 4. Marriage / wedding Đừng nói: “I’m going to my best friend’s marriage on Sunday.” Hãy nói: “I’m going to my best friend’s wedding on Sunday.” - wedding = lễ cưới . I’m going to my cousin’s wedding on October 7. . We want to have a band at our wedding reception. . The wedding will be at the church, and the reception will be at a restaurant. - Marriage = mối quan hệ hôn nhân. . My parents have a strong marriage. They’ve been together for 35 years. . New York has just legalized gay marriage. . Over 40% of marriages end in divorce. - Marry (v) = kết hôn, lấy vợ/chồng . My sister isn’t married. She’s single. . I’ve been married for 5 years. - Get married = đám cưới (The action of going from single to married) . We’re getting married in July. . My teacher got married last year. ********************************************* 5. Need / have to (cần / phải) Đừng nói: “I need study more.” Hãy nói: “I need to study more.” Hoặc: “I have to study more.” Khi theo sau need là verb, ta dùng need to + verb. Khi theo sau need là noun thì ta không cần dùng to. . I need to go to the library. . I need a book. ********************************************* 6. Meet / know Đừng nói: I knew him last year. Hãy nói: I met him last year. - Meet có 2 nghĩa: . Khi bạn bắt đầu liên lạc với ai đó. (Bắt đầu biết người đó.) Ex: I met him last year. . Khi bạn gặp ai đó bạn đã quen biết trước. Trong trường hợp này ta thường dùng meet with hoặc meet up with Ex: Im meeting up with some friends at the bar after work. - Know có 2 nghĩa & cách sử dụng khác nhau. . Kiến thức và kĩ năng nói chung. Ex: He knows everything about computers. . Quen biết người này người kia nói chung. Ex: Do you know Mary? She’s in the advanced English class. ********************************************* 7. Explain (giải thích) Đừng nói: Can you explain me the problem? Hãy nói: Can you explain the problem to me? Chúng ta có thể dùng explain (something) to (someone) như câu trên hoặc explain that.... Ex: The agent explained that our flight had been delayed 30 minutes because of the storm. ********************************************* 8. Recommend / Suggest (giới thiệu, tiến cử / gợi ý, đề nghị) Đừng nói: “I recommend you to get more exercise.” Hãy nói: “I recommend that you get more exercise.” Hoặc: “You should get more exercise.” Recommend và suggest được theo sau bởi that hoặc Ving chứ không phải to Ex: . I suggested that you see a doctor. . I suggested seeing a doctor. ********************************************* 9. Ask / Ask for / Ask about Ask (someone) to Đừng nói: I asked to my boss... Hãy nói: I asked my boss... - Hãy nhớ là không bao giờ sử dụng giới từ giữa ask và người mà đang được hỏi. - Khi bạn cần hỏi về object, sử dụng ask for + object I asked for a hamburger. I asked my boss for a raise. - Khi muốn hỏi về thông tin chung, sử dụng ask about I asked about her family. She asked me about my job. - Khi muốn hỏi thông tin cụ thể, sử dụng ask Question word I asked how much the camera cost. Let’s ask what time the theater opens. One moment – I’m on the phone asking my brother where we can park the car. - Khi bạn muốn nhờ ai đó làm việc gì, sử dụng ask (someone) to... I asked him to turn off the lights. Pass the time / Spend time Đừng nói: “I pass a lot of time reading.” Hãy nói: “I spend a lot of time reading.” - Sử dụng spend time để nói về việc bạn bỏ thời gian ra làm việc gì đó. - Pass the time = giết thời gian (làm việc gì đó cho qua thời gian) Ex: I look at the magazines to pass the time while waiting for my appointment at the dentist’s office.
