10 OClock Teacher Question! Emily writes: I work at a school that serves children with exceptionalities or challenges (ADHD, learning disabilities, autism spectrum, etc.). I have a 2nd grade student who is having a very difficult time learning some of the basics that should have been learned in kindergarten and 1st grade. She can only identify and write numbers 1-11. We do place value everyday with the number of days of school and she struggles to understand the patterns of place value. If she understood this I think being able to identify numbers would become easier. Her number sense is very weak and she still requires the use of manipulatives to solve even very basic addition and subtraction facts up to 5. She cannot skip count or even count backwards. I feel like I have tried everything I can think of and its just not sinking in/clicking. Any advice?
