Article given to me by-Roberta Sheridan) (ron’s note – Seems like we lost a lot of Higbee people during this time. Margaret Tucker was the Mayor of Higbee when the public water system was installed. (about 1963 or 1964) She was married to Charlie Tucker, a very famous rural mail-carrier. They last lived on east Division St. Where Ernest and Judy Whiseand now live. Sid Fisher and Arthur Mullier were neighbors. They lived on Fawks st. Sid lived where Amy Pottebaum now lives. Mulliers lived where Bo Daiprai use to live. Harvey Palmatory’s son, The belated- Tommy Palmatory, was married to Leonard Simms’ daughter, Sharon K.. Miss. Walker was my first-grade teacher. i shall never forget the time Denver White and I cut up several hundred feet of moulding, trying to round a corner in the ceiling, in the house on Bradley St. where Terry & Rita Painter now live . Odie Lyon, was the father of Mary Virginia (Lyon) Westfall, Ruth (Lyon) Mitchell, and Rodes Lyon, all of Higbee. Mrs. Ann Fullington was once our neighbor,(about 1951) when we lived north of Higbee. I remember her walking up the mud roads, with no shoes on. All new water lines were installed this past year. i shall never forget the first water bill i got. $4 and 8 cents. Which was a lot of money back then. There were no sewer or trash fees then either. i worked at Bersted’s, bringing home $39.89 a week.)
