10 days ago, I couldnt stand without a great deal of help, let alone walk. Tomorrow (Friday) afternoon, I will get in the car with Carole, and leave rehab at the Williamsport Regional Medical Center. We will get a couple of pizza’s and head home to have a movie and quiet evening with the boys. It has been a glorious 10 days – from anger and frustration, to hard work and giving up control and taking my ego out of the way, to seeing that while I feel very good, there is more work to do. The journey along the way back will be difficult at times, but I look forward to the challenge. I want to just say thanks to all who read this post – thanks for lifting me up in your thoughts and prayers, thanks for your offers of help when and where needed, thanks for keeping Carole and the boys in your thoughts, thanks for the many contributions you have made the past 5 years in helping me to prepare for this – even though neither you nor I could ever have imagined that all those things, experiences and friendships we have shared would have allowed me to be where I am today from just 10 days ago. Ive worked hard in therapy, but it was your support that buoyed me up when I needed it most. Ive worked hard for you – my family, friends, teammates, classmates, fellow Scouters, brothers and sisters in track and field, and all those others who have reached out. Ive been blessed with some great doctors, nurses and therapists, who have allowed me to push myself, yet had the wisdom to temper me when I needed it. As I said originally, this was a life changing event. My life has changed already, and will continue to change as I find the new path that has been chosen for me. Please know that all of you will always be part of that journey – I count on that, the same way that you can count on me being there for you when thing get tough. I owe each of you that. Mark 2.0 is still a work in progress, but the foundation is being strengthened each day! Thanks! It should be an incredible journey, made all the better with your love and support!
