10 million scallops were just killed by ocean acidification in British Colombia. CO2 levels have increased dramatically in the waters of the Georgia Strait, forcing pH levels to 7.3 from their norm of 8.1 or 8.2. As we dump more CO2 into the ocean, water becomes more acidic, which makes it harder for shellfish like scallops to build their shells. For marine life and seafood lovers alike, this is devastating news, and a sad glimpse of things to come... unless we get our acts together and cut back on CO2 emissions. Which we can certainly do, with clean energy. tinyurl/n569voa
