10 reasons why to join SOS 1. Its good for your child. Research shows that children whose parents are involved in their school make better grades and have fewer disciplinary problems at school. When parents get plugged in at school, their children do better. 2. Its important to the school. Schools are becoming more and more dependent on parent groups and Elmwood Murdock Elementary is no exception. The SOS is responsible for almost all of the schools fundraising revenue. We provide support to teachers and administrators, and they create a caring and supportive atmosphere in the school. 3. Youll get connected. Theres no better way to know whats going on in the school than to be involved with SOS. We are often the first to hear about important decisions and changes the school is thinking about making, and as an active member, you will get to know teachers and administrators on a familiar basis. 4. Youll be part of a network. Every SOS meeting and special event is an opportunity to meet other parents in the same situation as you. You will be connected with a group of parents who share a common goal of improving our school for our children. 5. Youll make a difference. By volunteering with SOS, youll be able to use your skills for a noble cause. We work to establish a supportive and encouraging community for the entire school. Our goal is to create the most educational environment possible for our children. 6. Its fun! Youll connect with a group of people who are all concerned with creating a better environment for our children. You will help plan fun events that the whole family can attend. And we laugh a great deal! 7. Youll be a role model. Youll show your children that not only are they important to you, but their education is as well. Theyll see you taking a stand to make education better for them and their peers, and chances are theyll do the same. 8. Youll help raise necessary funds. SOS fundraises to provide more educational services for our students. Fundraisers help provide numerous items such as supplies, new and expanded technology, field trips, in-school performances, and a host of other items that improve the quality of the school. 9. Its flexible. SOS has a variety of small ways parents can help and be involved. From serving all year as a board member, to volunteering a few hours for a one-day event, there are many opportunities for parents to help. Project responsibilities are flexible and can be adjusted to fit your time constraints. 10. Its for every parent. Your voice and opinion matters! It makes a difference when you speak up. Your ideas can help improve the quality of education for your children and their peers. When you see the smiles on their faces, youll know that youve played a part in making school a little more comfortable and fun.
